It is estimated that one in five resident households in Singapore employs a live-in FDW, relying on them for housekeeping, childcare and caregiving duties. Singapore has approximately 240,000 foreign domestic workers, hailing from countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar and India. However, with low wages and recruitment debts to pay off, many are vulnerable to exploitation and oppressive working and living conditions.
This International Women’s Day, we have partnered with Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME) to launch the #CountingOnCommunity Campaign to shed light on the challenges faced by foreign domestic workers and advocate for the protection of their rights by showcasing personal stories.
